CABTO Annual report

November 2009

Greetings everyone. As CABTO representative, I have been attending monthly conference calls as my schedule allows, and have attempted to increase your awareness if this organization, as well as National Brain Tumor month, which was in October. I hope that for those of you practicing in this area of neurosciences, you were able to make some headway in creating awareness and advocating for your patients as well.

There biggest project is M-235, which is bill passed to work towards national standards for tracking, recording, and analyzing patients with benign and malignant brain tumors in Canada. A national bill was passed in 2007 supporting this endeavour, but the logistics are very complex, so this will be an ongoing project.

CABTO holds a fundraiser at a Toronto Blue Jays game each September. I was unable to attend, but there were 200 tickets purchased with profits going to CABTO. These funds support patient education and support (including the handbooks we all give our patients), research, as well as a storybook for children about brain tumors. At our most recent conference call, CABTO National has indicated that they are in a financially stable position, so will be waiving the membership fee for this year only for affiliate members. This will mean that our annual fees are waived, and I have thanked them for this effort.

If you would like more information about CABTO, or the subjects above, there is a link on the CANN website, or please go to www.cabto.ca.

Respectfully submitted,
Janice Nesbitt
