Ontario—Central
Greetings from Ontario-Central!
As we enter a new membership year, the Ontario-Central Chapter is looking forward to continued growth. In order to have vision to move forward, we must also have courage to look back. We continue to be committed to exploring and providing educational and professional opportunities that best support our membership needs. Currently, we are considering the potential for videoconferencing and the development of a newsletter in order to provide support to nurses in outlying areas within our Chapter.
In looking back over the year, there have been several opportunities for our members to share. Once again many of our members have been actively involved in helping to organize and participate in conferences such as Trillium’s Annual Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Conference “Brains, Backs and Beyond” that took place in Mississauga, and the Annual Krembil Neuroscience Symposium that took place in Toronto. The conferences provided stimulating days of education and an excellent opportunity for networking.
We continued to have evening presentations at various locations throughout the region. SickKids hosted a presentation on “Pediatric Pain Management” and Toronto Western hosted a presentation on “Community Reintegration Following Cerebrovascular Hemorrhage”. In an attempt to reach members not located in the larger cities, we had a lunchtime videoconference hosted by Hamilton with a focus on Stroke Care. As a result, four smaller community providers had the opportunity to actively participate and share their experiences.
Congratulations to all our members who presented at WFNN held at York University in May. What a wonderful opportunity to showcase the expertise from not only across Canada but our region as well. I hope that many of you were able to connect with nurses from the around the world and experience the true spirit of Neuroscience Nursing. On behalf of Ontario-Central Chapter, I would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to the local organizing committee members who gave so much to ensure that special memories were made.
As councillor for the last three years, I have had the honour and privilege to speak to a variety of audiences about CANN and Neuroscience Nursing. It has been a pleasure to be supported by such a wealth of experience and enthusiasm. I would like to take a moment to express my appreciation for allowing me the opportunity to grow not only personally but more importantly professionally as a Neuroscience Nurse. I look forward to seeing you in Halifax.
Respectfully submitted,
Trish Haycock, R.N., B.A., BSN/MS
Councillor
