Saskatchewan Report

May 15, 2010

Greetings from Saskatchewan

Winter finally ended with the last snowfall coming on May 1st.

All our members are very anxious for summer to arrive which means a trip to the Quebec City to attend the 41st CANN meeting.

This report is being composed as we are participating in our second annual B.Q. at the local Coop food store. Sun is shining and the burgers are being enjoyed by young and old.

Our other successful fundraising event this spring was “Mothers and Fathers Day” gift baskets.

Our small group in Saskatoon has grown to 12 members. The group has had difficulty organizing education sessions with increased workloads and staffing shortages. Karen Waterhouse gave the staff an update on the use of the Vagal Nerve stimulator.

A research study “Conscious-3 Study” was presented to the neuroscience staff who are currently nursing the patients who will be enrolled in the study.

Two nurses are patiently awaiting the results of the certification exam.

With the introduction of provincially funded Mentorship Program, 5 of our staff nurses decided to spend their money attending 41st CANN. After experiencing the excitement of our conference in Halifax, the mentors are now active members of the local CANN association.

“OUI CANN, Communicating & networking nationally” promises to be an excellent education sessions and a social event with that French Canadian hospitality.

See you all in June

Respectfully submitted
Doris Newmeyer
Saskatchewan Councillor
