Saskatchewan—Saskatoon Report
November 2011
Greetings from Saskatchewan
We, Kristin Campbell and Aaron Gardner, are pleased to have accepted the position of councillors for the Saskatoon Chapter of CANN. As outgoing councillor, Doris Newmeyer, we thank her for her hard work and dedication to this chapter over the last three years. We are thankful that she will continue to be an active member in our chapter. We have had an increase in our chapter member numbers currently to 16 and hope to have more enrolment over the next year.
We are also happy to announce that we have four of our nurses, and possibly a couple more, that are interested in writing the Neurosciences Certification Exam. Karen Waterhouse will also be rewriting this year.
Our chapter has a busy year ahead with several fundraisers which include, poinsettia sales, bake sale, steak night, gift basket raffle, and a BBQ. These fundraisers have all been successful events in the past, so we hope that will be the same this year. The monies raised will go towards funding for our members to attend conferences, most specifically the annual conference in Ottawa.
Our educational reps are also planning on holding monthly sessions with presentations from our resident doctors and possibly some of our nurses presenting as well. We have already held a Pizza Luncheon sponsored by our local chapter to include free pizza, and a presentation on Sleep and Sleep Disorders from our neurology resident Ilia Poliakov. We also offered at that time for people to enter for two free membership for the year, to be submitted in April of 2012. We have found that these luncheons have always been well attended by staff and by offering these free memberships it really helps boost our enrolment and has been a successful recruitment strategy for us. The winners from the draw were Donna Campbell and Amanda Thiessen. So we will welcome them on board to our chapter.
As new councillors, we look forward to a new and exciting learning experiences and networking with our fellow neuroscience nurses from across Canada.
