Strategic Planning Report
June 2006
A new direction for CANN was born out of the January Mid-Year 2004 meeting with the aid of Donna Partridge, strategic planner. Broad areas of Communication, Membership, Research and Innovation, Education, and Public/Professional Influence were identified. Following this inaugural meeting, action plans and the identified team leaders were put in place to move the plan forward. At the Mid-Year and Annual meetings, the strategic plan for CANN 2004–2007 continued to take shape. In June 2005, at the Incoming and Outgoing Board of Directors the position of Strategic planning committee was re-instated. At the past Mid-Year meeting in January 2006, a foundational document was developed entitled “Report on the Strategic Plan 2004–2007” to provide the organization a comprehensive overview of the status of each of the initiatives under each dimension. The purpose of this report was to ensure that work done in all the areas was identified as such. As a rotational Board of Directors, business and its outcome is reported in the minutes that travel from councillor to councillor and committee chair to the next. For our new players on the BOD, the depth of our accomplishments and future plans may not seem that visible under first light. Therefore it is hoped that the document provides support to our new BOD members.
I am pleased to say that some of the initiatives of our plan have been fulfilled prior to the 2007 time line and other areas are progressing nicely. CANN continues to develop in all of the areas and is notably impressive for such a volunteer base. Congratulations to each and everyone of the many committed neuroscience nurses across Canada. As 2007 is drawing closer, the need to again plan for the next 5 years will be on our doorstep shortly.
Respectively submitted,
