WFNN Report to CANN
May 15 2009
The WFNN Congress 2009 (www.wfnn2009congress.ca) will come to be next week In Toronto at York University. There are around 260 registrants from 21 countries. A full scientific and social program is planned. Thanks to many CANN volunteers and especially many Ontario Central members the volunteer work was accomplished. Deb Holtom was the CANN rep on the scientific committee who with its rigorous leader Vickie Evans had the onerous job of choosing the presentations (both poster and platform) for 3 complete conference days. A pre conference initiates the WFNN Congress highlighting Parkinson’s Disease, neuroanatomy and the pharmacology of epilepsy. Hospital Tours of 4 Toronto hospitals are planned for the international attendees. Local hospitals will also be present to display job opportunities. Throughout the week two run/walk events will energize the nursing research efforts of CANN and NNF. The Board of directors will also meet to discuss important international initiatives. Last but not least CANN will be a signature at this WFNN event with a display booth compliments of our marketing rep Lynn Pratt, and Janice Nesbitt, CANN President, will officially welcome the international nurses to York at the welcome Canadian wine and cheese reception. A Royal Canadian Mounted Police will be our guest protecting us and providing a handsome backdrop for a Canadian photo shoot.
Many keynote speakers are planned including Roberta Bondar, a Canadian space neurologist.
I will be stepping down from my role as CANN WFNN rep following this event.
It has been my pleasure to represent CANN at the WFNN table. I hope the support I have received will continue as WFNN moves to promote neuroscience education and nursing around the globe. Thank you for this opportunity.
Wilma J. Koopman, RN(EC), MScN, CNN(c)
