About the convention theme
The primary health care approach (PHC) has long been recognized as the best way to optimize health and design and deliver effective health services. Yet, to be successful, we still need to expand PHC’s implementation throughout Canada. Our convention is geared toward the RN’s role in expanding PHC.

Convention highlights

CNA is excited to welcome Jann Arden, one of Canada’s most gifted singer-songwriters, to our convention. In her candid style, Jann will give us a captivating — and at times hilarious — account of her own health difficulties as well as those of her mother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s. Jann’s stories will make you remember why you chose such a challenging and rewarding career.

Some of the other members of our exciting convention lineup include:

  • Tim Porter-O’Grady: a senior partner with an international health-care consulting firm and one of North America’s most highly respected and engaging health experts
  • Sheila Tlou: director of the UNAIDS regional support team for eastern and southern Africa, as well as an educator, politician and activist who led real change in the fight against HIV
  • Nik Nanos: chairman of Nanos Research and global fellow at Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C.

The convention will also feature panel presentations by nurse trailblazers working to champion better health for Canada’s Indigenous Peoples and by millennial leaders bringing PHC into the next generation. More sessions and topics will be announced soon!

At our banquet, we will present the Jeanne Mance and five Order of Merit awards and honour our latest entries in the Memorial Book.

If our 2014 biennial convention was any indication, you can expect the 2016 event to be unforgettable and inspirational!

CNA 2016 convention partners: lead partner, TD bank; other partners: Nurses Association of New Brunswick, Canada Health Infoway, Jani-King.
