Abstracts

The CANN 2024 Scientific Committee invites Canadian and International neuroscience nurses, allied health clinicians, students and people with neuroscience-related lived experiences to submit their abstracts.

Please consider sharing your knowledge of any of the following by submitting an abstract on:

  • Advances in Neuroscience Nursing
  • Best practice
  • Local Initiatives and Successes
  • Original research
  • Case studies
  • Literature reviews 
  • Quality improvement projects
  • Neuroscience Nursing techniques
  • Advances in Neurosurgical techniques and care
  • Ethical considerations in Neuro
  • Ways to support the Wellbeing of Nurses

Abstracts are accepted for the following formats:

  • CONCURRENT: Oral presentation, 20 minutes in duration, 10 minutes for questions
  • PLENARY: Oral Presentation, 45 minutes in duration, 15 minutes for questions
  • PECHA KUCHA: Oral presentation, 6 minutes in duration, maximum of 20 to 24 slides
  • WORKSHOP: Oral interactive presentation, 60 to 90 minutes in duration. Must include audience participation and learning objectives

All presenters must register for the conference and pay the applicable registration fee.

All accepted abstracts will be eligible for the CANN ABSTRACT AWARD. This award was established to promote continuing professional education in line with the mission and vision of CANN and to facilitate the attendance of members at the Annual Meeting and Scientific Sessions. This award provides funding for one (1) conference registration for the author(s) of one of the accepted abstracts for the Annual Meeting & Scientific Sessions. Conference registration (Member rate only) reimbursement will be given to the successful applicant following their presentation at the Annual Meeting & Scientific Sessions.

First-time presenters are welcomed and encouraged to submit to this event. Upon request, novice presenters who would like assistance with developing their ideas and abstracts can be supported by the scientific committee (if needed.) If you would like assistance, please write to scientific@cann.ca no later than November 1, 2023.

Please consider the following resources to help you in drafting your abstract:

 

Abstract submission guidelines:

  1. All sections of the submission form must be completed. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  2. Please provide a valid email address so that we may contact you.
  3. Abstracts must be submitted in English and contain original content.
  4. Please specify the abstract’s first author and include any other authors’ names. You are responsible for informing your co-authors that you have submitted an abstract on their behalf.
  5. Your abstract title must be short and clear and should indicate the target audience for your presentation.
  6. Abstracts should be organized using the following headings for all scientific content: Backgrounds, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
  7. Abstracts should not exceed 250 words (excluding title).
  8. Abstracts will be reviewed in a de-identified format by the conference’s scientific committee on an ongoing basis in the order they have been received. The scientific committee will contact the authors to confirm abstract acceptance. 
  9. To avoid CANN communications from being filtered as spam, please add scientific@cann.ca and conference@cann.ca to your safe sender list.

 

Important information for presenters regarding the conference:

  • Confirmed speakers are expected to present in person at the conference in Toronto.
  • Content must be presented in English.
  • Presenters must register for the conference (registration to open at the end of the first quarter of 2024). A registration discount (amount to be announced at a later date) will be awarded to presenters.
  • A copy of your presentation will be required ahead of the conference. The deadline to submit your presentation will be confirmed by the scientific committee upon receiving your acceptance letter.
