Neuroscience Nurses Certification

CANADIAN NURSES ASSOCIATION

We regret to inform CANN membership that the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) retired the CNA Neuroscience Certification Exam in 2019. As CANN members are aware, neuroscience nursing was the first nursing specialty to be designated for specialty certification with CNA in 1987, and ours was the first CNA Certification Exam. The decision to retire the exam was made following several years of extensive collaborative effort between CNA and CANN to increase the numbers of both initial neuroscience certification applications and certification renewal.  Watch this video message from CEO Mike Villeneuve about the retirement of CNA Neuroscience Certification Exam.

CANN members who currently hold CNA certification in neurosciences will continue to be eligible for certification renewal using the continuous learning activities option.

AMERICAN BOARD OF NEUROSCIENCE NURSING

Although our Canadian certification exam is officially retired, Canadian registered nurses who meet the eligibility requirements may apply to write the American Board of Neuroscience Nursing (ABNN) certification exam and earn the Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN®) and/or the Stroke Certified Registered Nurse (SCRN ®) credentials.
