CARMELA REDHEAD was recognized as an amazing Neuro Nurse to Know by her colleague Ismalia De Sousa!Carmela works at London Health Sciences Center in Ontario in the epilepsy monitoring unit. They are very lucky to have her, as this is what Ismalia would like to share about Carmela:Carmela Redhead is poised to be a neuroscience nursing leader in epilepsy in Canada. While pursuing a Master's in Nursing at Western University with a focus on the experiences of women with epilepsy, Carmela has joined the Canadian Association of Neuroscience Nurses Communications & Marketing Committee. Carmela's involvement with CANN underscores her proactive approach to professional development and collaboration within the neuroscience nursing community. She has been instrumental in developing and sharing epilepsy resources and events within the CANN community, which is not surprising given her strong clinical background experience in epilepsy and significant professional development opportunities that she has completed through the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE), the American Epilepsy Society, and the American Board of Neuroscience Nurses. At the ILAE regional level for North America, Carmela serves as a regional lead, a member of the Nursing Curriculum Taskforce, and the Chair of the Best Practice and Guidelines Taskforce. During her nine years working at the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), Carmela has taken the lead to develop nursing-specific education resources, such as the EMU Nurses Resource Manual and the EMU Nurses Seizure Videos Database. Her passion for community engagement has led her to be actively involved in Epilepsy Southwestern Ontario (ESWO) for three years, working to connect patients with this much-needed resource. If I had a clinical question about epilepsy today, Carmela would be my go-to nurse, and she should also be yours!Congratulations CARMELA on your recognition! We are so happy you are a neuroscience nurse and part of our team too! ... See MoreSee Less
